Saying Bismillah must not be a ritual because it has a profound meaning.
- The first verse revealed in the Quran:
Recite in the name of your Rabb…
Quran Chapter 96 Verse 1
This shows that every action should begin in Allah’s name.
2. Bismillah reminds us of Allah’s absolute authority. Nothing moves without His permission. Saying Bismillah reminds us “I rely on Allah, not myself.”
3. Ar-Rahman, Ar-Raheem reminds us of Allah’s endless mercy. Always think of Allah’s mercy when you do things.
4. Bismillah is also a dua. When we say it, we are asking: “O Allah, grant Your mercy and blessing in what I do next.”
5. Bismillah is a shield. A Muslim won’t say “Bismillah” before drinking wine or eating pork, because they know it’s wrong. Let that hesitation protect you from haraam (forbidden things).
Every important matter that is not begun with ‘Bismillah’ is cut off (is devoid of Allah’s blessing).
