Prophet Muhammad said:
National Family Health Survey (NFHS-5) data says “1 out of every 4 people in India are overweight.”
Obesity and overweight are one of the major problems in the society. As per the World Health Organisation (WHO), the worldwide prevalence of obesity nearly tripled between 1975 and 2016. According to the Global Burden of Disease (GBD) study, 5.02 million people died prematurely in 2019 due to obesity, nearly six times the number that died from HIV/AIDS that year. Worldwide, more than eight per cent of all deaths in 2019 happened due to obesity. It was only four per cent in 1990.
Most of the times when people try to lose weight, they go to extremes in dieting. While this may help them reduce weight, it can lead to other health issues. The guidance of Prophet Muhammad (peace be on him), allows the person to take the middle path and at the same time also lose weight. Needless to say, following the guidance and advice of the Prophet will put an end to obesity and overweight problems in the society.
