Teachings of Prophet Muhammad (peace be on him) 1. Our Creator, God Almighty is One. 2. All humans are equal. God does not differentiate people on the basis of caste, skin colour, race or descent. 3. We are answerable to God in the eternal life after death for our actions on earth. ""Seek provisions from God (alone), worship Him (alone), and give Him thanks: you will all be returned to Him (after you die)."" - Quran Chapter 29: Verse 17 - Prophet Muhammad (peace be on him)Respect all humans- "A funeral passed by and Prophet Muhammad (peace be on him) stood up. People told the Prophet, “It is (the funeral of) a Jew.” The Prophet said: “Was he not a living being (soul)?” Every person, dead or alive, irrespective of their religion, caste, skin color and ethnicity deserves respect."- Bukhari # 1313Rights of the Minorities - The Jews are recognized as a community alongside Muslims. The Jews have the right to practice their religion and the Muslims have the right to practice their religion. The Muslims are against anyone who does acts of injustice or promotes transgression or evil. They shall all unite against that person even if that person is a Muslim. - Constitution of Medina (enacted under the leadership of Prophet Muhammad (peace be on him))Treatment of Minorities - When Prophet Muhammad (peace be on him) sent Muadh as the governor of Yemen which had Christians living as a minority, he advised him: "Be afraid of the curse of the oppressed, as there is no screen between their curse and God." (i.e don't think about oppressing them just because they are a minority, as God will accept the curse of the oppressed). - Bukhari # 2448Protection of non-Muslims - Prophet Muhammad (peace be on him) said: ""Be careful! Whoever is cruel and oppresses a non-Muslim living under a Muslim rule, or restricts their rights, or burdens them beyond their capacity, or takes anything from them against their free will; I (Prophet Muhammad) will argue for him (in support of the non-Muslim) on the Day of Judgment."" - Abu Dawud # 3052Prophet of Mercy - Some people asked the Prophet to curse the polytheists. Prophet Muhammad (peace be on him) said to them: I have not been sent (by God) to curse people, rather I have been sent (by God) to show kindness and mercy." - Sahih Muslim # 2599Prophet's Forgiveness - During the comquest of Makkah, a companion of the Prophet told the leader of the enemies: ""Today is a day of great revenge."" The Prophet then turned towards his enemies who had made several attempts to kill him and said: ""I speak to you in the same words as Prophet Joseph told his brothers: ""There is no blame on you today."" The Prophet then forgave his enemies. True forgiveness is when you have the full power to punish someone but you still choose to forgive. - Conquest of Makkah - Raheeq al MakhtumNo personal revenge - Prophet Muhammad (peace be on him) never took revenge (over anybody) for his own sake but (he took revenge) only when God's sanctified legal boundaries were violated. - Bukhari # 3560Testimony of a Prophet's enemy - Abu Sufyan, then the archenemy of the Prophet, met with Heraclius the Byzantine emperor. Heraclius asked him: Have you ever accused him of telling lies before his claim (to be a Prophet)? Abu Sufyan replied, 'No.' Heraclius asked: 'Does he break his promises?' Abu Sufyan replied, 'No.' Heraclius asked: 'What does he order you to do?' Abu Sufyan replied: He tells us to worship God and God alone and not to worship anything along with Him, and to give up all superstitions our ancestors had followed. He orders us to pray, to speak the truth, to be morally pure and to keep good relations with our family and relatives. Abu Sufyan then said: ""By God! Had I not been afraid of my companions labeling me a liar, I would not have spoken the truth about the Prophet."" - Bukhari # 7Prophet's humility - A man came to the Prophet and his voice trembled out of awe as he spoke to him. Prophet Muhammad (peace be on him) told him: “Relax, for I am not a king. I am only a son of a woman who ate dried meat.” - Sahih Ibn Majah # 2693Prophet's gentleness - Anas, a companion of the Prophet said: I served Prophet Muhammad (peace be on him) for ten years, and he never said to me, "Uf" (a minor harsh word denoting impatience) and never blamed me by saying, "Why did you do this or why didn't you do this?" - Bukhari # 6038Prophet's simplicity - Prophet Muhammad (peace be on him) used to wash his garments, stitch them (when they are torn), mend his shoes himself, milk his sheep, serve it himself and will do all the work other men do in their houses. - Sahih Jamih # 4937 & 4996.Prophet discouraged war - O people! Do not wish to face the enemy (in a battle). Pray to God for peaceful coexistence. - Bukhari # 2965Prophet disliked people standing up for him Anas (Prophet's companion) said: "The people loved to see Prophet Muhammad (peace be on him) more than any person. But, when they saw him, they did not stand up for him since they knew, he disliked that (people standing up for him)." Adabul Mufrad # 946Prophet didn't claim Divinity Tell them (O Prophet), ‘I am only a human being like you. It is revealed to me that your God is only One. So whoever looks forward to meet their God, let them do good deeds and not worship anyone other than God. Quran Chapter 18: Verse 110Prophet had no Divine Qualities Tell them (O Prophet), ‘I do not have the treasures of God, nor do I know the unseen, nor do I claim to be an angel. I only follow what is revealed to me (by God). Quran Chapter 6: Verse 50Messengers of God Tell them: “If there were angels walking on the earth, We (God) would have surely sent down an angel from heaven as a messenger."Demo for a washing machine is a washing machine. Demo for a car is a car. Demo for a human can only be a human! Quran Chapter 17: Verse 95Different Messengers, One Mission! We sent a messenger to every community (to tell them): "Worship God and stay away from false gods." Quran Chapter 16: Verse 36Who is Prophet Muhammad (peace be on him)? Tell them: “I am not the first messenger ever sent, I do not know what will be done with me or you. I only follow what is revealed to me (by God). I am only a clear warner (of your accountability before God.)” Quran Chapter 46: Verse 9Prophet for whole of humanity Tell them: O People! I am the Messenger of God to all of you, from Him (God) who has control over the heavens and the earth. There is no none worthy of worship except Him. He (God is the one who) gives life and causes death. Quran Chapter 7: Verse 158Leading with humility Prophets companion Abdullah said: I never saw the Messenger of God eating while reclining or walking with two men behind him. Abu Dawud # 3770Prophet discouraged war Prophet Muhammad (peace be on him) said: O people! Do not wish to face the enemy (in a battle). Pray to God for peaceful coexistence. Bukhari # 2965Prophet disliked exaggeration in praising Prophet Muhammad (peace be on him) said:Do not exaggerate in praising me as the Christians praised (Jesus) the son of Mary for I am only a servant (of God). So call me a servant of God and His Messenger." Bukhari # 3445Prophet disliked excessive praise During a marriage ceremony small girls were singing songs (praising the Prophet). One of the girls said: "There is a Prophet among us who knows what will happen tomorrow." Prophet Muhammad (peace be on him) said (to her):"Do not say this but (continue to) say whatever you have said other than that." Bukhari # 4001Prophet paid the debts of his people The Final Prophet Muhammad (peace be on him) said:I am closer to the Believers than themselves. So if one of the Believers dies in debt I will repay it but if he leaves wealth it will be for his heirs.Contrast the Prophets actions with governments that pass their debts onto citizens through taxes. Bukhari 5371Prophet prohibited people falling on his feet Prophets companion Muadh bowed down at Prophets feet (to show respect). Prophet asked: "Muadh! What are you doing?" Muadh replied: "I went to Syria and saw people falling at the feet of their Bishops and Monks. I wanted to do the same for you." Prophet Muhammad (peace be on him) said: "Dont do that." Ibn Majah # 1853Prophets generosity Prophet Muhammad (peace be on him) received revenue (money & goods) from Bahrain. The Prophet ordered the people to spread the money in the mosque. It was the biggest amount the Prophet had ever received. The Prophet left for prayer and did not even look at the money. After finishing the prayer he sat by the money and gave it to everybody he saw. Prophet Muhammad (peace be on him) did not get up till the last coin was distributed. Bukhari # 421Prophets house had no guards A lady went to the house of Prophet Muhammad (peace be on him) and she did not find any guard or gate-keeper there. Bukhari # 1283Prophets patience A villager started urinating inside the mosque and the people rushed to beat him. Prophet Muhammad (peace be on him) ordered them to leave the villager alone and (asked them to) pour a bucket of water over the place where he had urinated. The Prophet then said: "You have been sent (by God) to go easy on people and you have not been sent (by God) to go hard on them." Bukhari # 6128Prophets simple food Prophets companion Anas said: "I do not know that Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) ever saw a thin well-baked loaf of bread or he saw a roasted sheep with his eyes until he passed away." Bukhari # 6457Prophets simple life The Messenger of God slept on a rough straw mat and when he got up the mat had left marks on his body. People said: "O Messenger of God! We could get a soft bed for you." Prophet Muhammad (peace be on him) replied: "What do I have to do with the world! I am (in this world) like a traveler who had sat under a tree for its shade then went away leaving it behind. Sahih Jamih # 4937 & 4996Prophets Will The Final Prophet Muhammad (peace be on him) said: "My family will not inherit gold coins or silver coins (i.e. money). After taking out what is required for the livelihood expenses of my family and the wages of my employees whatever I leave behind should be given in charity." Bukhari # 1313Prophet - the epitome of Justice When a lady from (what was considered) a noble clan committed a theft the Prophet was asked to excuse her from punishment. The Final Prophet Muhammad (peace be on him) said: What destroyed past societies was that if a person from a noble clan committed theft they would forgive him and if a poor person committed theft they would punish him. I swear by God if Fatima the daughter of Muhammad committed theft I would cut her hand off. Bukhari # 3475Prophet - the social reformer Prophet Muhammad (peace be on him) said: Every superstitious custom of the past (during the period of ignorance) and every claim to shed blood (for taking revenge) is beneath these two feet of mine (i.e. is abolished). Abu Dawud # 3052When a jewish lady poisoned the Prophet... A Jewish lady brought a poisoned (cooked) sheep for the Prophet who ate from it. She was brought to the Prophet and people asked him: "Shall we kill her?" Prophet Muhammad (peace be on him) said: "No." Bukhari # 2617When a man threatened the Prophet.. While coming back from an expedition the Prophet rested in the shade of a tree and hung his sword (on the tree). Prophet Muhammad (peace be on him) called the people and said: "This man came to me while I was asleep and stealthily took my sword. I woke up to him standing by my head holding my sword. The man then asked me: "Who will save you from me?" I replied "God." So he put the sword away and sat down. Here he is." Prophet Muhammad (peace be on him) did not punish him. Bukhari # 4139When the Prophet died... When Prophet Muhammad (peace be on him) died he did not leave any silver or gold coins (i.e. money). He only left behind his white mule on which he used to ride his arms and a piece of land which he left to be given in charity. Bukhari # 3098With the people till the end! Some people said: “Messenger of God! We will set up a separate tent for you." Prophet Muhammad (peace be on him) said: “I want to live among people (even if) they pull my clothes and step on my legs. I will remain like this until God separates me from them (i.e until his death)." Majmuz Zawaid # 9/24Prophet - a warner and deliverer of good news "Tell them (O Prophet): “I have no power to benefit or protect myself except what God has willed. If I had the knowledge of the Unseen I would have benefited myself enormously and no harm would have ever touched me. I am only a warner (of Gods questioning and hell fire) and deliverer of good news (of Gods mercy and paradise) for those who believe (in God).” Quran Chapter 7: Verse 188Prophet didnt claim Divinity Tell them (O Prophet) ‘I am only a human being like you. It is revealed to me that your God is only One. So whoever looks forward to meet their God let them do good deeds and not worship anyone other than God.
