Introduction
People of Taqwa are not just those who pray and fast. Taqwa touches every part of life, our thoughts, words, actions, and how we deal with others. It should appear in our worship, our family life, our finances, and our behavior in public and private.
O believers! Have Taqwa of Allah in the way He deserves, and do not die except as Muslims (in full submission to Him).
Quran Chapter 3 Verse 102
At the end of this article, you will find a practical self-assessment checklist designed to help you evaluate where you truly stand.
Who are the People of Taqwa?
To help us understand Taqwa, Allah describes throughout the Quran the qualities of those who truly have it. Learn these qualities. Reflect on where you stand. Notice where you fall short and work to improve. This is how we can become people of Taqwa, in sha Allah!
The infographic below shows how Taqwa influences every aspect of our life.
📌 Note for Readers
The word Taqwa does not always appear in the same verse. Often, Allah mentions Taqwa in one verse and then describes the qualities of the people of Taqwa in the verses before or after it.
For example:
- In 6:151–153, the commands are listed first, and then Allah concludes with: *“so that you may attain Taqwa.”
- In 50:31, Paradise is promised to the people of Taqwa, and the following verses describe who they are.
So when reading these references, always look at the surrounding context to fully understand what Taqwa includes.
A Taqwa Self-Assessment Checklist is available to help you reflect and identify areas for improvement. You can download it at the end of this article.

Time for Self-Reflection
One of the key qualities of a person of Taqwa is to regularly self-introspect, to see where they stand and work to improve.
O believers! Have Taqwa of Allah and let every person consider carefully what (deeds) he sends ahead for tomorrow (Judgement Day). Have Taqwa of Allah! Surely, Allah is fully aware of what you do.
Quran Chapter 59 Verse 18
Notice that the phrase “Have Taqwa of Allah” appears twice in the same verse. This highlights the importance of constant self-introspection for anyone who seeks to live with true Taqwa.
