The Greatest Reward of Taqwa

People of Taqwa get Jannah. Jannah has lush gardens. Rivers. Peace. Eternal comfort. Can there anything be greater than that?

What is the greatest reward of Taqwa?

People of Taqwa get Jannah. Jannah has lush gardens. Rivers. Peace. Eternal comfort.

Can there anything be greater than that?

Yes! Allah says:

Surely, the people of Taqwa will be among gardens and rivers, in a seat of truth, near the Most Powerful King.

Quran Chapter 54 Verses 54-55

The greatest reward of Taqwa is not just comfort in Jannah. It is the honour of gaining nearness to Allah. It is the honour of a permanent station granted by the King of Kings.

What makes this Reward so Unique?

Notice the precision of the verse.

Allah first mentions gardens and rivers, the physical delights of Jannah.

Then He elevates the reward for the people of Taqwa.

“In a seat of truth (مَقْعَدِ صِدْقٍ)…”

Allah uses the word maq‘ad which comes from root qa‘ada which means to settle, to remain. It refers to an established, fixed position. Not a temporary seating which you eventually get up and leave. That temporary act of sitting is expressed in Arabic by the word jalasa.

Allah rewards the people of Taqwa with a permanent, honoured station. Alhamdulillah!

Allah describes the “seat” as sidq which stands for truth, genuineness, authenticity.

This ‘seat’ given by Allah is true, genuine and authentic honour.

In this world, we chase many seats and work very hard for it.

  • Seats at Academic institutions
  • Seats on Masjid committees, Boards and Trusts
  • Seats in a political party

Each of this worldly seat is temporary and comes with an expiry date.

The greatest reward of Taqwa – the seat of honour granted by Allah is permanent.

We work so hard for the worldly seats that don’t last. How hard are we working for the seat that lasts forever, the honour Allah grants to the people of Taqwa?

Near the Most Powerful King

The verse ends with:

“Near the Most Powerful King.”

The true and the greatest reward is proximity to Allah.

Allah says:

Allah has promised the believing men and women gardens beneath which rivers flow… and the pleasure of Allah is greater.

Quran Chapter 9 Verse 72

The pleasure of Allah is greater than Jannah itself.

Nearness to Allah is the greatest reward

Prophet Muhammad (peace be on him) said:

Allah will ask those who enter paradise: “Do you want anything more so that I may give it to you?”
They will say:
“Have You not brightened our faces? Have You not admitted us into Paradise? Have You not saved us from the Fire?”
Then Allah will remove the veil.
And they will not be given anything more beloved to them than looking at their Rabb, the Mighty and Majestic.

Sahih Muslim # 181

You people will see your Rabb as you see this full moon, and you will have no trouble in seeing Him.

Bukhari # 7434

Closeness to Allah must be the Muslim’s highest aspiration.

How Do We Attain the Greatest Reward of Taqwa?

Allah links the honour of His closeness directly to Taqwa.

Fasting in Ramadan was prescribed for this very purpose:

“…so that you may attain Taqwa.”
(Quran 2:183)

Taqwa is disciplined obedience that reflects in all aspects of your life.

  • Guarding your tongue
  • Lowering your gaze
  • Controlling anger
  • Avoiding hidden sins
  • Acting with sincerity and much more.

The month of Ramadan is not about temporary enthusiasm. It is about permanent transformation.

If you want a permanent seat near Allah, build permanent obedience now.

Conclusion: Work Hard for the Greatest Reward

We spend our lives competing for temporary recognition.

But the greatest reward of Taqwa is eternal honour, a fixed, established seat near the Most Powerful King.

This Ramadan, aim higher.

Aim for nearness of Allah.

Aim for permanence.

Aim for the greatest reward of Taqwa.
